Peaches and Apples and Plums... Oh My!

TODO

Summer is coming to a close and the fall bounty is soon to be ready for harvest. Some of the early fruits are already beginning to come in from the orchards, which has us thinking about canning and stocking our pantry shelves with fresh organic fruits and veggies from our Azure farm.

PEACHES

This year's peach crop has been extra abundant, so it's a great year to stock up on peaches (they're great for freezing, canning, drying or just eating fresh off the tree). My favorite peachy dessert is peach cobbler, yum! I'm usually really good at keeping a secret, but this one's too good to keep to myself, so here's my “secret” family peach cobbler recipe… guess it's not a secret anymore (don't tell my Nana!)

APPLES

We're expecting the early crop of apples to make their debut Labor Day week. Gala's will kick off the apple season. Because of the heat, the Galas will be on the smaller side, but just as tasty. The later varieties are looking good, and we're expecting an abundant harvest to include varieties such as: Fuji, Empire, Braeburn, Cameo and Granny Smith. Our mouths are watering with thoughts of hot apple pies, apple cider, cinnamon apple crisp and all of the other delightful treats in an apple. Be sure to keep your household in apples this fall, they're always better fresh from the orchard. We'll be picking apples now through early November, which means you can enjoy many delicious varieties for months to come.

PLUMS

In order to have a long season, we have many plum varieties, but they are all wonderful. Azure plums grow in a rainbow of jewel colors and can include varieties such as the Early Italian (purple) and Shiro (yellow) which are the first to be harvested. Other varieties grown at Azure include the President, Santa Rosa and Italian plums. This means, with each order, you may get a different variety, which will be the very freshest from our harvest.

PICKLING CUCUMBERS?

We had a wonderful surprise on the farm this season. We thought the pickling cucumber harvest was finished for the season, and to our delight, these tasty little cucumbers have decided to bless us with a second round of harvest. So... if you haven't done your pickling yet, or want to add a few more jars to your pantry, we have another bountiful harvest of pickling cucumbers available for you to enjoy.

We are thrilled to be able to share the wonderful harvest, from the Azure farm, with you and wish you health and abundance during this fall season.
