I don’t know whose idea this was, but I could kiss them! On the cheek. Well, maybe just a nice firm handshake or a gentle pat on the back. Doesn’t matter, the point is - bug wipes!! Technically they are calling them “toilettes,” but you get the picture. Bug repellent wipes are a genius idea because half of what sprays out of a bottle gets lost in the air around your body. What a waste! To avoid this, I usually cup my hand, spray repellent into it and rub it into my skin from my hand. But this? These wipes? Even better! At first, when I started to wipe down my legs and feet, the wipe felt drier in my hand than I was expecting, so I thought that I was going to have to use one wipe per limb because they didn’t seem to have much repellent on them. Boy was I wrong!
I wiped my legs, feet and forearms with one little 6 x 6 inch wipe and I had no problem with bugs. Which tells me I may have been over applying repellent all of these years. With Buzz Away, like all of the natural plant and essential oil based repellents I’ve used, I find I have to re-apply it every couple of hours. In my mind, that’s a small price to pay for not having to put harsh chemicals like DEET on my body. The package says it repels mosquitoes and ticks. I have used it on several mosquitoey nights and it does the job perfectly. No ticks either, but with these old knees of mine, I was not hiking in any deep woods, just be-bopping around my fairly wooded property. What’s even better is that these wipes are keeping more than just mosquitoes and ticks away.
A couple of Saturday mornings ago I decided to take my tea and a good book outside but I was getting pestered by either sweat bees or hover flies. I wish I could tell you which they were, but I’m no scientist. Seriously, I couldn't tell the difference even after I googled it! But suffice it to say that these Buzz Away wipes can keep other bugs away as well. I wiped my legs and arms down and all those little bees (or flies??) vacated the area entirely! I also enjoy the scent. Definitely the geranium comes through, but the cedar does too, subtly. I love the smell of cedar, it reminds me of cigar boxes and my grandpa. The last thing I can say about the wipes is that they did a great job with the packaging. Now, I can’t exactly describe the difference in the sealing technology on the top of the package, again I’m no scientist, but this seal has got a thin sticky strip of stiff plastic that makes it crazy air tight and awesome. So much better than most re-sealable bags.
